Institute for Occupational Health of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine is a coordinator of scientific studies on the problem «Occupational health and occupational pathology» in Ukraine. In recent years the Institute was an initiator of a number of new scientific directions. Among them: developing a new concept of preventive medicine, based on the scientific assessment of occupational health risks; use of psychophysiological expertise in occupational selection; search for bio-markers of genetic sensitivity in the effect of harmful occupational factors; development of scientific bases of nanotoxicology. Studies on establishing a potential danger and mechanisms of toxic effect of new chemical substances and development of new principles of their hygienic regulation have gained further development. Epidemiological studies on the problem of occupational cancer, risks of HIV infection, TB, different types of hepatitis at workplace are in process. The investigations on the combined effect of physical factors of different energetic nature are continued. The serious attention is paid to studying occupational problems in alternative energetic (receiving biofuel). Over the last 5 years there have been developed 279 hygienic regulations and standards, 28 monographs, 796 papers; 27 patents have been obtained; «Ukrainian Journal of Occupational Health» is systematically issued.
