Introduction. In today's dynamic information environment one of the most perspective ways in solving a problem of improving the health care quality for workers is development of modern medical information systems (MIS), with the purpose, in particular, to improve recording and registration of patients with occupational diseases (OD). This can help to objectively assess rates of occupational morbidity and to develop and introduce, in time, preventive measures.

Purpose of the study – to summarize the data of the scientific literature, concerning possibilities of MIS, using in operative and long-term monitoring of workers' health.

Materials and methods. An analytical review of scientific publications and databases of PubMed, WHO and other Internet electronic resources.

Results. The actuality of using modern problem-oriented information systems through development of a common information space between specialized health care institutions has been highlighted. The developing structured databases on patients with OD and automation of processes in the system management can promote increasing the quality of using the medical data. Conclusions. The purpose of developing modern information systems is to analyze problematic issues of medicine and to adopt effective managerial decisions on their bases. Providing the compliance with principles of developing an information system and clear definition of a task of their operation, the use of high-qualified information and software and hardware resources, it makes it possible to optimize processes of storage, exchange and analysis of information, intensification of communicative interaction among all users of the system, solving many issues of scientific, medical and organizational character.

Key words: medical information system, occupational diseases, registry
