Introduction. Over the last decade the increase of cases of sudden death (SD) at work place and “rejuvenation” of the contingent of suddenly dead was marked. Cardiovascular diseases is the main reason of the sudden death. In spite of development and improvement of new technologies for diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular diseases the problem of the sudden cardiac death, even in the developed countries remained to be unsolved. By the WHO data SCD at work place makes 7 %. Among persons, died as a result of SD, young persons aged before 35, take a significant part, and among the reasons these are sudden physical or psycho-emotional strain.

Purpose of the study was to establish the prevalence of SD at workplace in different occupational groups and specificity of its occurrence, depending on work conditions and type of work.

Results. The data on the prevalence of SD at workplace in Ukraine are laid down in the article. The studies showed that in 2012 in Ukraine 966 cases of SD at workplace was recorded, making 5,3 per 100 000 working population and 14,1 per 100 000 population, working in harmful conditions. The analysis of cases of SD depending on sex, age and work experience showed that almost 95% cases referred to males; their average age was 50-60 and the work experience — more than 30 years. The majority of cases of SD at workplace were recorded in Dnepropetrovsk and Kiev oblasts, reaching from 10,76 % to 15,8 % in the structure of the general mortality. Also, the analysis covered cases of SD at workplace according to branches of industry, among them sociocultural sphere took the principle place — 33 %, transport — 15 %, machine building and metallurgical — 14 %, coal mining and minerals industry — 9,3 %. SD cases at workplace in miners of underground mines have been analyzed in detail, where work conditions are characterized by exposures to physical and emotional strain, overheating and, so, can exert unfavorable effect on the blood-circulation system and result in fatal consequences. Measures for preventing SD at work place have been proposed.
