The health of the population is recognized by the world community as the only criterion for the effectiveness of any sphere of economic or social activity. The health of the working population has recently become a priority in the developed countries of the world. Recommendations of the UN, WHO, ILO on ensuring human rights to healthy and safe working conditions are widely implemented. The WHO Global Strategy for Occupational Health for All, the WHO Global Plan of Action for Occupational Health are recognized; in the EU countries - the "European Social Charter", which defines the principles of prevention of occupational diseases. In conditions of forming new socio-economic relations, reformation of the system of medical care to the population, these recommendations deserve the most careful attention for implementation in Ukraine. The activities of the Institute should be integrated into the European system of social values and be based on the achievements of international experience in ensuring the health of the working population.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the progressive development of preventive medicine requires the integration of occupational science with many branches of basic sciences, biology, chemistry, physics. Only based on the results of the basic research there is a possibility to deepen ideas about the mechanisms of influence of harmful environmental factors on the human body, to clarify the pathogenesis of occupational and eco-related diseases and development of effective methods for their diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

The thing is, first of all, about the relationship of occupational health with such modern branches of science as molecular biology, genetics, cybernetics. In Ukraine, this is possible primarily through the cooperation of specialized scientific institutions of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
